YouTube's Ad Blitz censored the Tebow ad?

After looking at YouTube’s Ad Blitz page earlier today, we were able to see 72 separate Super Bowl ads. The Focus on the Family ad featuring Tim Tebow was not one of them. We aren’t sure whether the Tebow ad was ever included in the Ad Blitz site along with all the other Super Bowl ads, but it sure doesn’t appear to be there now. We repeatedly tried multiple methods of viewing or scrolling through the ads on that site. We also did a Google Search looking for any other coverage of this situation and found none.

Earlier this week via Twitter, we encouraged people to vote for the Tebow ad on Hulu and we also saw it on USA Today’s ad voting and rankings page.  So, both Hulu and USA Today deemed the Tebow ad a legitimate ad for voting purposes. Apparently, YouTube found some reason to not include it on their Ad Blitz site.

YouTube, which is owned by Google, has been caught up in allegations of censorship in the past. Google’s censorship has been so widespread that there is a Wikipedia entry called Censorship by Google. In 2008, Google refused to accept advertising from a British pro-life group. Google’s rejection of the ads was on the grounds that, “[a]t this time, Google policy does not permit the advertisement of websites that contain ‘abortion and religion-related content’.”

Statement of Dr. Charmaine Yoest on airing of Tim Tebow’s Super Bowl ad

Statement of Americans United for Life Action President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest on the airing of Tim Tebow’s Super Bowl ad:

“This ad was funny, light-hearted, and had a positive message for everyone. The hate-filled reaction from pro-abortion groups reveals a radical abortion-at-any-cost agenda that is far out of step with the American people. Congratulations to Focus on the Family for inspiring us all in the face of extremism.”

Tebow Facebook effort explodes to more than 200,000 supporters

This effort was started to demonstrate support for Focus on the Family’s Super Bowl commercial featuring college football superstar Tim Tebow and his family.

“The attempt by the National Organization for Women and NARAL Pro-Choice America to prevent Focus on the Family’s Tebow commercial from airing tomorrow is out of step with mainstream Americans, ” said Dr. Charmaine Yoest, President of Americans United for Life Action, “200,000 of whom took the time to join us on Facebook to show their support.”

Last week, Americans United for Life Action (AULA) and LifeNews.com launched a Facebook page in support of Focus on the Family’s pro-life Super Bowl ad featuring Tim Tebow. The number of supporters on that page has grown rapidly since then. It has now eclipsed the 100,000 mark.

Media coverage has included a mention on social media news site Mashable. Bruce Horovitz of USA Today tweeted about the Facebook fan page.

Mark Tapscott also mentioned it in his Beltway Confidential blog at Examiner.com:

This is the same group that did the innovative Virtual March for Life this week. As of this afternoon, more than 83,000 people have signed up there, created an avatar for themself [sic], and joined the march. Could this be the first instance of new technological protest wave?

Another part of the Facebook page is a video submission contest announced by AULA communications director Matthew Faraci. The below video provides details:

We are asking everyone interested to submit their video story to the Facebook page. The video can be your own story about the impact of someone (you, a relative, or a friend) choosing life has had on you.

The video should be no more than 2-3 minutes long. The best videos will be featured here on the blog, on the Facebook page, and possibly other places online. If you’d rather post your video to YouTube, Vimeo or another site, please leave a link to it in the comments below on this blog post so we can find it (posting a link on the Facebook page would be good too but due to the high traffic of comments there, we can only guarantee we will see it if it is posted to the comments on this blog post.)

“Support Tebow’s Superbowl Ad” Group on Facebook Scoring Touchdown with Fans

WASHINGTON – A coalition of abortion rights groups are expressing “outrage” over an upcoming Focus on the Family Superbowl ad about a woman’s decision to continue with a high-risk pregnancy against doctor’s advice – a mother’s personal choice which resulted in the birth of Tim Tebow, who has become one of America’s biggest college football stars.

“It’s fascinating that NOW [the National Organization for Women] is wanting to censor the Tebows from telling their story. What is NOW afraid of? NOW does not want people to hear Mrs. Tebow’s inspirational story and they are coming out against one woman talking about her choice. Why don’t they want the American women to hear about the infinite possibilities that life offers?” said Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest on MSNBC. “Why doesn’t NOW raise the money and put their own ad on? Let’s have freedom of speech. Let’s have an open airing of opinions.”

The new Facebook group, “Support Tebow’s Super Bowl Ad“, devoted to “supporting Focus on the Family’s right to Free Speech”, is growing by the minute on the social networking site. The Facebook group, presented by Americans United for Life Action and LifeNews.com, aims to demonstrate wide support for the responsible decision made by CBS to air the ad and for the right of the Tebow family to present their story.

Support Tim Tebow's Super Bowl Ad

As you have probably heard by now, the National Organization for Women is pressuring CBS to yank a pro-life Super Bowl ad featuring Tim Tebow from the airwaves. Focus on the Family purchased that commercial air time. Earlier today, AUL Action President and CEO Charmaine Yoest appeared on MSNBC to defend the free speech rights of Focus on the Family.

Here’s the video of that appearance:

Newsbusters also wrote a report on this appearance.

AUL Action has started a Facebook fan page called Support Tebow’s Super Bowl Ad.
